BLOG Has Got into Everyone's Life Now

If you were to search the word of "BLOG" ten years ago, you probably will not get any or very little posts. But now, it has became a huge trend that differentiate the old media and new. So, what does it offer to attract people to join this phenomenon until it so popular now?

What is a Weblog? According to Jorn Barger (1999) a weblog is a webpage (a place) offerring people like you and me 'logs' all the findings which we think interesting. It does not guarantee people will denifitely hear you, somehow it gives us a place to express ourself. Blog is easy to setup and even the most little computer literate people can get it started.

Weblog is unlike print. The content can be revised or removed by the writer in anytime, anywhere. It can be posted immediately, unlike print whereby has to wait until the next day then will be published. The news has already a history. Blog has also no apparent bias like media which always side to the government because visitor can pick and choose the blog that pertains to their interests or viewpoints. They are allowed to leave comments if they wish to, even when they disagree with the issues raised.

Blogpulse reported that there are 144 million blogs currently live on web and with average 50 thousand new blogs created in daily. With this phenomenon continues to grow, there is no coincident that the old media has to change themselve in order to cater to the trend. Most of the publisher even Singapore local media The Straits Times has made their website adapts to the blog-style like format.  Woody Lewis comments in his blog that traditional newspapers are using social media such as Blog, Twitter, Facebook to save the industry as social media provides opportunity to them an interactive channel to communicate with its current and future customer.

More proven impacts such as Malaysia General Election in 2008, blogs and other social networking sites played major role during election. There are blogs about government and opposition party, even the prime minister Mr Najib Tun Razak has created his own blog.

Nevertheless, blogs has brought people who shares similar interests together. Even the smallest blog has chance to connect people regardless of races, countries or languages we speak.
